![]() In Crossfire, once a card is drawn, the game almost plays itself. So there's some randomness to results, as well as some personality and progression, none of which feel like they exist in Crossfire. But your symbols are dice with a yahtzee reroll mechanic, and they're attached to characters you hire and gear up rather than a dry hand of cards and a health counter. In Sprawl Ops, you're still going up against missions represented by symbols. I honestly think Shadowrun Sprawl Ops did a similar mechanic better. ![]() I do like the way they made the mechanics feel very thematic, but it's still very mechanical. That's why the game feels pretty mechanical compared to many other games that, at a glance, look similar. Do you fireball that weak but crazy mage now, or do you soak up his damage and let a teammate just kill him with a popgun later so that you can save your powerful fireball? The biggest decisions are about where to allocate your symbols and when, since it's not unusual for excess symbols to go to waste. In a very real sense you're just matching symbols. The expansion added a mission where the AI wasn't so massively overpowered, which gave you a sandbox in which to level up a little without throwing the game out a window.Īs to the complexity, Crossfire is not particularly complex. ![]() But starting out it would just stomp you game after game. So if you kept playing a lot and ranking up, the balance would level out and then end up in your favor. It was like playing poker against an AI, where the AI was drawing two extra cards a turn in the expectation that you would eventually rank up to draw three extra cards yourself. Instead it was the randomness and frankly the broken missions. I can't speak too much to Dragonfire since I've only played it a couple times.īut Crossfire's difficulty wasn't in its complexity. I'm curious of others thoughts or insights about Dragonfire and/or Heroes of Terrinoth, and the topic of expansions? But I've been hesitating after reading people's frustrations on the bgg forums over the game more than likely not receiving any expansions, despite being a solidly good game.ĭragonfire on the other hand has received for expansion: 6 Adventure Packs, 2 Character Packs, 2 Treasure Packs, and 1 Campaign, with another upcoming.Īfter reading how frustrating it is to not have a solid game receive any new content, it seems like such a waste to not be able to get into Dragonfire which has a metric ton of content, yet from what I've read the games harsh difficulty seems to seriously limit it's accessibility. I spent a lot of time researching whether or not to buy Heroes of Terrinoth, probably more time than it's price is worth. The reason I keep coming back to Dragonfire, though, is somewhat related to another game I've been musing on buying Heroes of Terrinoth, which is a co-op adventure card game and reimplimentation of Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game. Dragonfire is supposedly slightly easier. One of the games I've come across multiple times is Dragonfire, and the consensus on it seems to be pretty split.įrom what I've gathered Dragonfire is a reskin of Shadowrun: Crossfire a co-op deck builder and game of such notorious difficulty that it's win requirements seem to inhabit that extreme realm of hyper awareness that video game speed runners attain after playing the same level 500 times. r/tabletopgamedesign - Designer's subredditĪlways on the look out for good co-ops for me and my gf, I've been doing my usual co-op games research, which consists of lots of reddit board games forum searches and the same over at bgg.r/boardgameexchange - selling/buying/trading games.Game of the Week Calendar Related Sites & Subreddits The simplest use is to bold game names in your comment and add " /u/r2d8 getinfo" at the end of the post, but this post/sub has other features identified.
